Notre Dame could have to deal with USC quarterback Matt Barkley when the Irish close their regular season with a trip to Los Angeles on Saturday.
The Trojans quarterback sprained his left ankle in a 36-7 loss to Oregon State on Saturday, but X-rays on Sunday showed no broken bones, The Associated Press reported.
USC coach Lane Kiffin is hopeful Barkley, who missed the second half Saturday, will be able to play against the Irish (6-5).
If Barley is unable to play, Mitch Mustain will likely start against Notre Dame.
The Trojans have no update from the NCAA on the status of tailback Dillon Baxter, who was left home after accepting a ride in a golf cart from a USC student who might be an agent, according to the AP.
