Light news, bad news and quizzical news

In an attempt to lighten the mood at practice today, Komets defenseman Bobby Phillips wore the uniform that his father, Bob, donned for the team in the 1981-82 season.

Interestingly, they are both about the same size, but notice how much smaller dad's pads were.

Sorry about the darkness of the picture, but, it was taken on my phone.

As for the bad news, depending on your perspective, the Komets released forward Marc Rechlicz, who was scoreless with a minus-3 rating and 26 penalty minutes in seven games.

I know some players were scratching their heads about the move -- I think bad penalties may have played a part -- but the players were more surprised that management didn't take a run at acquiring Patrik Levesque from Quad City. He was dealt to Mississippi for future considerations.

I'm sure he would have been difficult to fit under the Komets' salary cap, but why not take a look at him and try to infuse something?

Finally, click here to read my story from today's paper on the Komets' efforts to break out of their scoring woes.
