Luers is champion again

INDIANAPOLIS – Bishop Luers’ defense dominated in a 26-14 win over North Putnam in the Class 2A state football final Friday at Lucas Oil Stadium.

The Knights held North Putnam to 234 yards, and Everett Green returned a fumble 39 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Indiana recruit Kenny Mullen ran for 59 yards and a touchdown and caught three passes for 34 yards for Luers (14-1). Luers claimed its second straight state title and ninth overall.

Travis Franklin gained 91 yards on 12 carries and caught a pass for 44 yards for North Putnam (14-1). He also won the Mental Attitude Award.

North Putnam’s Caleb Vondersaar intercepted three passes by Luers quarterback James Knapke. Knapke had thrown only six interceptions all season.
