Purdue prepares for title game

Purdue looks to stay undefeated tonight heading into what will be its toughest game of the season up to date against Virginia Tech.

Some things I'll be interested in against Richmond:

  • Richmond point guard Kevin Anderson is the reigning Atlantic 10 Player of the Year after averaging nearly 18 points per game last season. He entered his name in the NBA draft but withdrew, so he's back for his senior season. His average is down a bit early in 2010-11 to 14.2 points per game, but he's shooting 42 percent on three-pointers.

But Purdue's point guard tandem of Lewis Jackson and Kelsey Barlow have shown they can frustrate opposing point guards. It's unlikely Anderson has consistently played against the kind of pressure, length and aggressiveness that he'll see tonight.

  • Can Richmond slow E'Twaun Moore? Moore is coming off a career-high 31 points against Southern Illinois in a game in which he made his final nine shots. Let's see how long that streak runs.
  • Purdue center JaJuan Johnson had his post moves working against SIU. He'll get another matchup tonight with a bigger center in 6-foot-10, 225-pounder Justin Harper. I didn't get a chance to see Harper much on Friday, but he's averaging 12 points and 5.2 rebounds.
