Danny Hope described Purdue's 4-8 season as "difficult in a lot of ways, a challenge" during his postseason interview with media on Monday.
"I think we showed some great signs," Hope said. "I think we made some real improvements as a football team. That's significant because we did it throughout the season where we had a lot of tragedy and difficult situations. We got better in the secondary. We got better across the defensive line. We got better on the offensive line. We got better at run defense. We got better at manufacturing run offense. I thought our special teams made great improvement this year in just about every phase. I thought we made a lot of improvement on the field.
"I thought the season was a success from a program standpoint, not in regards to wins and losses. We're very disappointed with the record, and we all hate to lose. It makes us sick to lose, but I think the fact that we made progress in run defense, manufacturing a run offense, became a more physical football team. I think we competed."
