Hope evaluates his coaching performance

Danny Hope said several times during his postseason media news conference that he was unhappy with the team's 4-8 record.

But he also said it was important to look at the "silver lining" in the season.

Part of that was how he said the team held together despite the struggles.

"Any area of the football team that we underachieved in is my responsibility. Certainly, I'm in charge of it," he said. "I think we did good as far as team morale goes and making sure we didn't take the difficult things that happened to us personal. Sometimes when you're not as successful as you want to be, you can start pointing fingers. I don't think anybody on the team or anybody on the staff spent a whole lot of time with what I refer to as stinking thinking. I think everybody kept together. I think that was very, very important for our football team. From a head coaching standpoint, I think I helped our football team from that standpoint."

Hope said he also tried to get involved in any areas of that team that weren't performing well.

He specifically mentioned early in the season when the linebackers weren't playing well and not as "polished up in our run reads and fits" and he stepped in to offer help.

"I think I did a good job of asserting myself and trying to help the coaches get themselves in position to win," he said.
