Irish pick up quarterback

Notre Dame ended up on the other side of a decommitment, according to a South Carolina TV station.

Everett Golson, a dual-threat quarterback from Myrtle Beach (S.C.) High School, decommitted from North Carolina and chose Notre Dame, according to WPDE Sports.

The television station said Irish coaches visited Golson on Wednesday and the decision to make the switch was made in part because of possible NCAA sanctions looming over North Carolina.

Golson, who missed part of this season because of an injury, threw 22 touchdown passes and was intercepted once while leading Myrtle Beach to the South Carolina Class 3A state championship.

The 6-foot, 170-pound quarterback made his official visit to Notre Dame when the Irish upset Utah on Nov. 13.

"It went real good," Golson told Irish Illustrated after the November visit. "I really felt kind of wanted and everything. The relationships up there were genuine and everything. And just seeing the campus, everything was beautiful. Everything was good."

Golson will also play basketball for Notre Dame, according to Irish Illustrated.
