A thought on Lardner

Here's something to consider about Tab Lardner, who will make his debut with the Komets on Friday against the visiting Bloomington PrairieThunder.

While much of the talk has been about what his impact will be on the offense, he is a very defensive-minded player.

In fact, and this is an amazing statistic, over the last eight seasons, only one player not from Fort Wayne won the award for Outstanding Defensive Forward in the IHL or United Hockey League. That player was Lardner, with Port Huron, in 2009.

As for why Missouri traded him for future considerations, Lardner said: "It was a couple different things we didn't see eye to eye on. There were a few things that I thought the game should be played one way and (they didn't). It just wasn't working out there. It was a good trade for both teams. (The Mavericks) get to bring in some young guys and Fort Wayne has seen what I can do in the past, and hopefully, I can bring some of that back."

Another thought: Does anyone worry about having all these former Port Huron players with Lardner, Derek Patrosso and Brandon Naurato? I mean, it's not like they ever got it done with the Icehawks in the playoffs.

I'm sure Jamie Lovell will be here in no time.
