Luers' next phenom similar to first one

They played the same team in their debuts, almost did the same thing and both picked up wins. It came almost on the same day too.

Luers freshman James Blackmon Jr. scored 25 points in the Knights' 69-66 win over Mishawaka Marian on Saturday.

The Indiana University recruit was making his high school debut.

Four years ago, a freshman by the name of Deshaun Thomas scored 27 points in a 64-53 win over - Mishawaka Marian - in his first prep game Dec. 2.

Blackmon made his debut Dec. 4.

Thomas went onto to score more than 3,000 career points and win the 2010 Mr. Basketball award before heading to Ohio State for his college basketball.

Blackmon, the son of Luers coach James Blackmon Sr., has already beaten Thomas in one category, though.

Thomas committed to Ohio State after his freshman season, while Blackmon Jr. said yes to the Hoosiers before his first year.
