Eyeing IU

IU blows out Savannah State

Keys to the game

Indiana improved to 7-1 with a 79-57 victory against Savannah State.

Here are some of the highlights:

Key number: 55.3.

Indiana’s shooting percentage in the game. The Hoosiers have shot better than 50 percent in six of their eight games. IU shot 60.9 percent in the first half.

That’s a fact: Jordan Hulls went 3 for 3 from three-point territory, improving his season three-point percentage to 58.1.

“I thought our effort (Saturday), especially on the defensive end, was outstanding. And you judge it on whether or not you get better during the game, and that’s exactly what our guys did. They had 46 deflections in the second half to give us 71, which, I’ve never been a part of a team as a head coach or assistant that had those kinds of deflections. That was outstanding. That’s always a barometer of an active defense.”

- IU coach Tom Crean

The opponent’s view

“The whole team was pressing. The fact that it was a national TV basketball game and playing Indiana in a very traditional type environment. The environment was a little bit more intense.”

- Savannah State coach Horace Broadnax
