Purdue pregame vs. Alabama

This is probably not a good sign: In early shootaround, guard D.J. Byrd was shooting left-handed.

He's right-handed.

Byrd ran into a hard screen against Virginia Tech and injured his right shoulder. He came out of the game after not being able to shoot or rebound, coach Matt Painter said.

Byrd, who was wearing a padded, sleeveless vest while warming up, likely will be a game-time decision against Alabama today.

It'll be interesting to see what happens if he doesn't play or is limited.

Painter has not been pleased with the production of big men Patrick Bade, Travis Carroll and Sandi Marcius, which has meant undersized 6-foot-5 Byrd has handled the bulk of playing time at power forward.

But if Byrd is limited, how does Painter fill that spot?

Something to watch for.

  • Haven't seen if Alabama forward JaMychal Green made the trip and will play. Green, the team's second-leading scorer, has been suspended the past two games. The Tide has won both.
