Hughes take on Miami

Notre Dame senior running back Robert Hughes caught glimpses of Miami – Irish's opponent in the Sun Bowl on Dec. 31 – during the season.

Hughes, who ran for 219 yards and two touchdowns this season, was impressed by the Hurricanes' defense.

Miami gave up 126.3 passing yards, the second best total in the nation, and held teams to 317.2 total yards (16th nationally). The Hurricanes were 21st in points given up, surrendering 19.7 per game.

"That defense looks pretty good," Hughes said. "Miami has always recruited great players, and it is always going to be a challenge."

Notre Dame's best chance at attacking Miami's defense could by with Hughes and the rest of the running game. The Hurricanes were 81st nationally against the run, giving up 170.8 rushing yards per game.
