I got a tip that the Komets' longtime athletic trainer, Shawn Dundon, will no longer be with the Komets next season.One of the few bright spots for the Komets recently has been Steven Delisle, a 6-foot-6, 209-pound rookie, who has helped stabilize the defense.
Now he may be out for the season.
Delisle has a shoulder subluxation -- it is popping in and out of its joint -- that first occurred during training camp with the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets and was re-aggravated during Friday's 5-3 loss to Bloomington.
A fourth-round draft pick of Columbus in 2008, Delisle is expected to undergo MRI testing this week.
"It looks like surgery is the next option," Komets coach Al Sims said. "All he did was reach up for a puck and it popped out again, so obviously it needs something more than just time."
Delisle, 20, in his first season out of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, is scoreless with a minus-2 rating in six games for Fort Wayne.
"It definitely hurts us. He's just a young kid that has only played six games pro, and then this happens to him," Sims said. "It looks like his season might end. It's very discouraging for him and tough for our team because I think he would have developed into a Brent Henley-type player....
"It's a big hole for us. We were looking forward to January and February and seeing what kind of player he could have been."
