Out of sight, out of conference

Wednesday was a big night for the Summit League, and especially for IPFW.

Both the men's and women's teams came away with non-conference victories at Memorial Coliseum. The men smoked Toledo from the MAC, 78-65, and the women held on to beat Valparaiso of the Horizon League, 73-65.

What the two wins should do - and we'll see if it happens - is give both programs a little more credibility, particularly locally.

There would have been a time when the men beating Toledo and the women beating Valpo on the same night would have been considered huge upsets, but that's not the case anymore.

The women improved to 5-3 this season, and the men are 6-2, with a four-game winning streak.
