Powerless again. That was the story of another lost night on the road for the struggling Fort Wayne Komets.
The Komets skated with the man advantage nine times Saturday against the Missouri Mavericks on a night when 28 penalties were whistled. Nine times they came up empty.
It was an important piece of a 4-1 loss to Missouri that dropped the Komets to 5-12-1 and kept them in last place the Central Hockey League.
Nick Sirota, Cole Ruwe, Simon Watson and Olivier Filion scored for the Mavs, who were an astounding 0-for-13 on the power play themselves. Leo Thomas got the Komets only goal, at 10:39 of the first period, on assists from P.C. Drouin and Chris Francis.
That briefly tied the score at 1. Ruwe untied it at 14:10, and Missouri never looked back, despite being outshot 12-3 in the third period.
The Komets wrap up the weekend at Quad City today at 5 p.m.
