And Another Thing

Mike Shanahan, coaching jean-yus

So here is one person's opinion on the Great Donovan McNabb Benching. And here is another.

I choose column B.

I think, that Mike Shanahan is and has been for a long time something of a fraud, and he's proving it this year. Shanny and his offensive coordinator son, Kyle (aka, Little Shanny) have somehow taken a quarterback who, when Andy Reid was coaching him last year, went to the Pro Bowl with a quarterback rating of 92.7, and turned him into the guy who's replacing him tomorrow, Rex Grossman.

And claimed it's all McNabb's fault.

Look. No one's suggesting here McNabb hasn't slipped. But the ham-handed way Shanahan has handled him (and allowed his nitwit son to handle him) has reduced him to a guy barely recognizable as the McNabb of the Philly days. To suggest that it's all because McNabb is fat and stupid is not only insulting to one of the game's class acts (and a future Hall of Famer), it's stupid coaching; word out of Washington is that Shanny has now completely lost the locker room with his latest stroke of brilliance.

Before this, I never thought Shanahan was much more than a guy who won two Super Bowls with Terrell Davis and John Elway and then never did anything but get crushed in the playoffs by the Colts every year. Now I not only think that, I know it.
