Lt. Gov. Skillman not running for governor

INDIANAPOLIS – Lt. Gov. Becky Skillman says she won’t be running for governor in 2012.

Skillman said in a statement Monday that a recent physical exam revealed minor health issues and that she had decided it would be best to avoid the additional stress of a gubernatorial campaign.

She said the health issues won’t interfere with her duties as lieutenant governor, but didn’t disclose what the problem was.

The former state senator from Bedford had been considering a campaign to succeed Republican Gov. Mitch Daniels, who will leave office because of term limits.

Congressman Mike Pence has also been mentioned as a potential Republican candidate for governor.
