No word on Hunter's status

With a half hour to go before the Mad Ants play Iowa tonight in a key D-League game at Memorial Coliseum, there was no official word on the status of 6-foot-11 Chris Hunter.

With 3:05 remaining in Saturday's win over Springfield, Hunter went down with what was diagnosed early as a partial tear to his Achilles' tendon.

Although an MRI was taken last night, it has not been read by the Ants medical staff, so there is no official diagnosis to the injury. But it still likely that it is the Achilles, and that it will take most of the season, if not all of it, to heal.

There is no "good" time for an injury, but this one came at a particularly bad time, since the East Conference-leading Iowa Energy is Sunday's opponent.

Iowa immediately has a mismatch in former Michigan center Courtney Sims, who, at 6-11, averages 18.4 points and 9.4 rebounds.

"I know Chris was especially looking forward to playing him," Ants coach Joey Meyer said before the game.

Check in at the half.
