Statement issued Monday:
The Fire Department and EMS team narrowly overcame the Police and Sheriffs’ team in the 16th Annual Battle for Blood, 685 votes to 670 votes. This marks the fifth consecutive win by the Firefighters and EMS team.
The Battle for Blood helped build the blood supply during this critical holiday season by collecting 1,187 pints of blood and 631 platelet products. This was the most successful Battle for Blood in Fort Wayne history, surpassing the record of 1,179 pints of blood collected in 2002. Sponsors of the event included Indiana’s NewsCenter, WBCL and Pizza Hut.
