Verbatim: Black Pine sets animal fun day

Statement issued Monday:

Black Pine Animal Sanctuary in Albion will host Animal Enrichment Day on Saturday, January 8 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., weather permitting.

Black Pine is a 501c3 non-profit organization that provides permanent refuge to displaced, captive-raised exotic animals including tigers, lions, leopards, bears, birds, monkeys, reptiles and more. Animal Enrichment Day is an annual winter event organized by volunteers and features the opportunity to observe many animals as they receive hand-made pinatas filled with meat, toys, and other treats from their keepers. Staff will provide hot cocoa, a bonfire, and be on hand to help visitors navigate the sanctuary to see big and small cats, reptiles, llamas, goats, pigs, and more.

General admission, and “wish list” donations will be accepted to benefit the animals during the long winter months. For information about items requested, visit the Sanctuary’s web site at www.blackpine.org/enrichment. Black Pine is located at 1426 W. 300 N. in Albion, about 1.5 miles west of the intersection of State Roads 8 and 9.

Cancellation in the event of inclement weather will be announced on Black Pine’s web site, www.blackpine.org Facebook page, and by calling (260) 636-7383.
