I don't have much trouble with the pronunciation, but I've been at this awhile.
But we do have a nickname, thanks to an Ice Chips reader, for Artem Podshendyalov: aPod.
And aPod looks good so far. He's stolen the puck for a breakaway, then chimed the shot off the post. Seconds later, he completely humbled a defender, Russell Smith, before dropping a pass to Frankie DeAngelis for a one-timer goal that gave the Komets a 2-0 lead over Mississippi at Memorial Coliseum.
It has been a commanding performance for the Komets, so far.
As for aPod, here's the brief history: He was tearing it up in the Greater Metro Hockey League, and then was supposed to go to Elmira of the ECHL. His immigration paperwork was held up and the Jackals lost interest. Then the GMHL called the Komets, who were interested, and now he's here.
By the way, the deal with Chaulk is that his entire family is ill, and they are worn out by the quick move back to Toronto from Italy. They haven't even had their Christmas yet.
