My copy of the Good Housekeeping New Complete Book of Needlecraft was, as usual, purchased at a thrift store.
It has good, solid technique and clear illustrations. Some of the fashions, as you can see from the cover, are a bit dated, but still fun to look at.
Surprisingly, patterns for children and babies seem to stand the test of time better than those for adults and teenagers. I like all of the patterns shown on this page, for example.
