Mironovic could deserve suspension

I reviewed the tape of the knee-to-knee hit by Fort Wayne's Danko Mironovic on Dayton's Brandon Naurato, during the Komets' 4-3 shootout victory on the road Saturday night.

It was pretty dirty. In fact, I'm astonished there wasn't a penalty on the play. I have to believe the Gems will send in tape to the league and Mironovic will get a suspension of some sort.

Now, while I've already heard some flak coming out of Dayton on this, I can tell you that Mironovic is not a dirty player and there's no way it was premeditated in any way.

Conspiracy theorists will claim it was because Naurato had scored in all four previous games against the Komets, who released him, and because Naurato was on a seven-game goal-scoring streak, longest in the Central Hockey League this season.

That's just not Danko.

But you have to be accountable for your actions. And stepping out at the blue line like he did, as Naurato came horizontally across the zone, is asking for trouble. I think he was looking to deliver a hip check -- the video is a little grainy -- and just misfired. Even so, it was a very dangerous play and I would be peeved, were I a member of the Gems' organization.
