Like many of you, I will be watching Purdue play Penn State on TV tonight.
Here are a couple things I'll be looking for:
- Who guards Talor Battle? During practice before the team left for State College, Kelsey Barlow was matched up on "Talor Battle" while coaches did a walk-through of the scouting report. If Battle doesn't play point guard, it's unlikely Lewis Jackson will get matched up against Battle. Barlow, though, has been defending multiple positions this season. So the responsibility of shutting down one of the league's most dynamic players could be on Barlow. He'll likely get some help, and it'll be interesting to see if that's from Terone Johnson or E'Twaun Moore.
- Can Purdue win the rebounding battle? Penn State has some nice size along its front line -- starting 6-foot-7, 6-8 and 6-10. Purdue likely will counter with 6-4, 6-5 and 6-10. The Nittany Lions have a worse rebounding margin (plus 2.2) than Purdue (plus 4.6) but opponents are averaging fewer rebounds per game against Penn State.
