And Another Thing

Da prediction

I have avoided this for as long as possible. But if they're going to insist on playing the game anyway, I guess it's time to lay out what I think will happen tonight in the BCS (Best Cabal Standing) "national championship" game.

I think the over-under could be 100 points, first of all.

I think punting will not be a huge factor, considering Oregon averages 3.2 punts per game and Auburn 2.9.

I think Cam Newton will run and throw for about a gazillion yards for Auburn. And LaMichael James will run for a gazillion-and-two yards for Oregon.

I think Oregon, which averages 79.3 plays and 49.3 points per game, starts fast and gets faster. I think Auburn, which averages 66.4 plays and 42.7, starts only slightly less fast and gets only slightly less faster.

In the end, weirdly, defense will decide it. Auburn will make one and possible two more stops than Oregon. And despite the Ducks' fabled ability to wear teams out in the second half, Auburn builds a big lead and then holds off a furious Oregon rally to win.

Make it 47-41, Tigers.
