Creek discusses injury

Calling it "another challenge I’m going to have to tackle," Maurice Creek discussed his right knee injury Wednesday.

Creek played in just 12 games last year before his season ended with a fractured left patella. That injury occurred in the final non-conference game of the year.

"I feel a little bit better about this one, just because all I went through last year," Creek said. "It’s going to take time, but I’m mentally prepared."

He started 13 games this season, averaging 8.3 points. The injury occurred with less than two minutes remaining. Creek said he heard a pop in his knee as he caught a pass on a fast break. Creek finished the play with a layup and then fell to the floor.

IU coach Tom Crean said the Hoosiers are deeper this year, which will make them better prepared to play without Creek.

"I certainly expect Matt Roth to play more. The freshmen (Will Sheehey and Victor Oladipo), who are not viewed as freshmen, are going to have to step up even more," Crean said. "We need a more consistent Derek (Elston) and Tom (Pritchard), potentially Bobby (Capobianco). I think you’ll see more Dan Moore, but I thought that anyways. I thought we’d start to play more of Dan Moore, especially because of the energy and speed that he brings.

"I’m not sure you can shorten your rotation in this league as much as the other ones. We have to continue to have fresh bodies and try to be on the attack as much as we can."
