State police: Dozens of crashes, slide-offs in region

Statement issued early Monday afternoon by the Fort Wayne post of the Indiana State Police:

Roadways throughout the 11 county coverage area for the Indiana State Police post in Fort Wayne continue to be snow covered and slick. While the majority of the major arteries such as I-69, I-469, and US 30 have been cleared in many of its areas, some lanes continue to have snow and slush in them which, if not navigated safely, can be problematic.

From the time periods of midnight to 2:00 pm today, troopers from our post responded to and investigated a total of 21 vehicle crashes (20 property damage and 1 personal injury) along with 23 slide offs, with the vast majority of those occurring on I-69 in Allen, DeKalb and Huntington Counties.

Again, we continue to stress that driving behaviors are to blame for crashes, not the weather. There is always something that we as motorists can do to modify our driving behavior to make us and those driving around us safer.
