Mastodons cool off after quick start

Things started so well for IPFW, in the unusual-yet-festive confines of the Memorial Coliseum Expo Center.

Five of the first six rebounds went the Mastodons’ way and they led 6-1.

When they were up 15-10, the Mastodons were shooting 53.8 percent and Oral Roberts was at 36.4 percent.

But things turned sour. There were turnovers, missed shots, gaffed plays and Oral Roberts leads 31-29 shortly before halftime.

And it has been heated. The teams have combined for 21 fouls, 12 for the Golden Eagles, and that’s just what’s been called.

Both coaches have been warned to tone down their rhetoric; they were complaining a lot about the officiating, deservedly so.
