Komets again find success on road

Chaulk

The road continues to be kind to the Komets, even though they had never traveled this road before.

In their first-ever game at Bossier City, La., the Komets defeated the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs 5-3 on Friday night.

Leading the Komets (14-18-5) to their fifth straight road victory – the antithesis to their current 1-3-3 run at home – was center Colin Chaulk with a goal and two assists.

He got the Komets going with a goal 3:43 into the game and helped set up forward Derek Patrosso at 11:46.

After former Komet Jamie Milam scored for the Mudbugs at 19:37, Chaulk assisted on a goal by defenseman Bobby Phillips at 1:28 of the second period for a 3-1 lead.

The Komets also got goals from left wing P.C. Drouin and center Danny Lapointe, who found an empty net.

Kevin Reiter stopped 23 of 26 shots for the Komets, who are tied with Evansville for the worst record in the 18-team CHL. Tonight, they take on the Mudbugs (22-18-2) again.

Friday marked the debut of defenseman Michael Ratchuk, the former second-round pick of the Philadelphia Flyers, assigned to the Komets by the NHL’s Columbus Blue Jackets last Sunday. In his first game at the AA level, and his first game of the season on defense, his slap shot from the blue line was redirected by Patrosso for the second goal.
