Closings, cancellations, postponements

Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels said tonight that state offices would be open Wednesday.

Daniels sent the state's workers home at 3 p.m. Tuesday because of the storm.

The state's emergency operations center continues to be staffed, the governor's office said in a statement.


  • Canterbury vs. Homestead: Canterbury has canceled the boys basketball game against Homestead that was originally scheduled for Tuesday evening. The game has been rescheduled for Thursday, Feb. 24, at Canterbury with the same times: 5 p.m. freshman, 6:15 p.m. junior varsity and 7:45 p.m. varsity.
  • Westview sports: Girl's basketball with Jimtown canceled. Ninth-grad boys basketball with Northridge postponed to Feb. 7.
  • Snider signing news conference: Snider High School has rescheduled the event to announcing Snider athletes who will be signing scholarships with Division 1 schools. It will be 9:30 a.m. Friday in the Black & Gold Room, Room 193.
  • Boys Varsity/JV Basketball: Northrop at Columbia City has been canceled for tonight (2/1/11) and rescheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 16, at Columbia City, with the JV game starting at 6:15 pm.
  • Boys Basketball tonight Carrroll vs. Whitko has been canceled. It will be played Feb. 23 at Carroll.
  • Girls basketball, DeKalb at Lakeland, is canceled.
  • Boys basketball, DeKalb at Angola, is postponed to Feb. 8.
  • The Bellmont boys basketball game with Concordia Lutheran has been canceled on Tuesday, Feb. 1. The game has been rescheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 23, and is at Bellmont High School.
  • Wawasee's athletic events for Tuesday -- boys swimming at East Noble and girls basketball at Bremen -- have been canceled and will not be rescheduled. The freshmen boys basketball game vs. Elkhart Memorial on Wednesday has also been canceled and will not be rescheduled.

  • Gypsy moth public meeting: Winter weather has forced postponement of the DNR public meetings on gypsy moth treatments scheduled today through Feb. 3. The meeting scheduled for Adams County Public Library in Decatur for Wednesday, Feb.2, is postponed until Saturday, Feb. 5, at 2 p.m. at the library.


  • General Motors: GM's Fort Wayne Assembly plant has canceled operations for Wednesday beginning with its third shift Tuesday night and continuing through the first and second shifts Wednesday. Weather permitting, normal operations are to resume for Thursday's third shift, which begins Wednesday evening. Employees are encouraged to contact the Fort Wayne Employee Information Line at 866-503-7755 for the most up-to-date schedule information.

  • SCAN: The SCAN office and all client services are closed until noon Wednesday. Clients should check media alerts for potential of closing the remainder of the day.
  • ResCare Adult Day Services: All services will be closed on Wednesday.
  • St. Joseph Hospital's outpatient labs: Four of the labs are closed until Thursday morning in anticipation of severe winter weather. These labs include: St. Joe Lab at Anthony Medical Center, 5717 S. Anthony Blvd.; St. Joe Lab at Churubusco Family Medicine, 202 W. Whitley St, Churubusco; St. Joe Lab at Lafayette Medical Center, 2700 S. Lafayette St.; and St. Joe Lab at MD Imaging, 2520 Lake Ave. All lab services at St. Joseph Hospital, 700 Broadway, will continue uninterrupted.
  • Starbucks downtown is closing at 4 p.m. Tuesday and reopening at 7 a.m. Wednesday.

  • St. Nicholas Orthodox Church: Liturgy is canceled Tuesday evening.
  • FWCS: All evening activities have been canceled at Fort Wayne Community Schools.
  • Bedtime Basics for Baby: Classes scheduled for Tuesday night at Parkview Hospital's Randallia campus have been canceled.
  • The Dash-In, 814 S. Calhoun St., will be closed Wednesday due to the weather, according to a sign on the door.

  • Indiana Tech: All College of Professional Studies evening classes for Tuesday at all locations, including Fort Wayne, are canceled. CPS offices outside Fort Wayne are closed. Also, at the Fort Wayne campus: Intramurals and open gym are closed; Guys night in Andorfer Commons will be rescheduled; and The McMillen Library will close at 5 p.m. Tuesday.   • "Lioness" premiere: The Fort Wayne premiere of the documentary film at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) scheduled for Tuesday evening is canceled. It will be rescheduled at a later date.
  • Becketts Run sewer project: Weather has caused Fort Wayne City Utilities to postpone the public meeting on the Becketts Run Sewer Interceptor project scheduled at Shawnee Middle School on Wednesday evening. The meeting will be rescheduled. Affected property owners will be notified of the new date and location.
  • Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation: All after-school youth programs, Community Center programs and Botanical Conservatory programs are canceled Tuesday evening. The Community Center will close at 4:30 p.m., the conservatory will close at 5 p.m., and Weisser, Jennings and Cooper centers will close at 5 p.m. this evening. All city park ponds are closed for ice skating. If Fort Wayne Community Schools close due to inclement weather, all Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation classes will also be canceled. If the mayor declares a snow emergency, all facilities and programs will be closed or canceled. For more information, call 427-6000.
  • Caring with Compassion: Seminar scheduled for 7 a.m. Wednesday has been postponed because of weather. Those registered to attend may check the education calendar on for notification of the rescheduled event in the near future.
  • Allen County Jail visitation: Visitation is canceled Tuesday evening.
  • Salsa Loca!: Tuesday night Salsa dance class at 816 Pint and Slice is canceled.
  • Stroke Support Group: This month's meeting scheduled for Tuesday night at The Rehabilitation Hospital of Fort Wayne, 7970 W. Jefferson Blvd., has been canceled.
  • Northeast Indiana Disability Advocacy Coalition: Tuesday night's meeting with Arc of Indiana Executive Director John Dickerson has been canceled due to the coming blizzard. The event will be rescheduled.
  • Childbirth class: The class scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Lutheran Hospital, 7950 W. Jefferson Blvd., has been canceled.
  • Six Mile Creek Trail: Tuesday's public information meeting to discuss the design of the Six Mile Creek Trail project has been postponed. The meeting has been rescheduled to take place at 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 17 at the Public Safety Academy at Southtown Centre, Room 2200.
  • Community Center: The Fort Wayne Parks & Recreation Department Community Center has canceled all regularly scheduled daytime programs and activities. For more information, call 427-6000.
  • Elder Care: The Chamber Academy scheduled for Wednesday morning has been canceled, according to an e-mail sent by the Greater Fort Wayne Chamber of Commerce.
  • Childbirth class: The childbirth class scheduled at The Birthplace at St. Joseph Hospital has been canceled.
  • Cinema Center: Cinema Center has canceled its shows for Tuesday and Wednesday.
  • Parkview North classes: The Zumba exercise class and Fort Wayne Urology's Interstitial Support Group at Parkview North, scheduled for tonight, have been canceled.
  • Parkview prenatal classes: The prenatal classes scheduled for Tuesday night at the Parkview North campus have been canceled.
  • Blood drive: The American Red Cross blood drive scheduled for Wednesday at Triple Crown Services has been postponed and will be rescheduled for a later date.
  • Allen County SPCA: The agency will be closed Wednesday and will reopen at noon Thursday.
  • Waynedale News: The Waynedale News will be closed until 1 p.m. Wednesday.
  • Interfaith Harmony Event: "A Seed of Common Ground: We Refuse to Be Enemies," scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday at Wellspring Interfaith Social Services Center, has been rescheduled to 7 p.m. Feb. 9.
  • Summit City Fencing Club: The Summit City Fencing Club at Glenbrook Square will not be having class or practice tonight.
  • Madelineines Bakehouse: Madelineines Bakehouse is closed for the evening tonight.
  • Unity Performing Arts Foundation: Closed Wednesday.
  • Allen County parks: Allen County parks are closed during the declared snow emergency.
  • Heartland Church: All classes and service are canceled for Wednesday.
  • First Presbyterian: All activities are canceled Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church, and First Presbyterian Day Care Ministry is closed Wednesday.
  • Fort Wayne Museum of Art: The museum will be closed Wednesday.
  • Glenbrook Square: The mall, which closed at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, will resume normal business hours Wednesday.
  • Social Security office: The Fort Wayne Social Security office, 2122 Lincolnway Court, is closed Wednesday.
  • National Serv-All: National Serv-All's hauling division has stopped all trash and recycling collections for Wednesday.
Fort Wayne's 311 call center is now available around the clock, according to a statement from Mayor Tom Henry. Residents are encouraged to report problems including fallen trees or tree limbs that are blocking streets.

  • Defiance County: Governmental offices are closed Wednesday. If you have business with a county office, however, phone ahead because individual offices may be available. Employees should contact their appointing authority or immediate supervisor if in doubt about reporting to work.
  • Health Fit Rehab & Wellness: Community Memorial Hospital's (Hicksville) Health Fit Rehab & Wellness will close at 2 p.m. Tuesday. It will be closed Wednesday and is scheduled to reopen at 5 a.m. Thursday.

  • DeKalb County Blood Drive: The American Red Cross blood drive originally scheduled from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at First United Methodist Church will now be closing at 3 p.m. due to winter weather.
  • DeKalb County Jail: Visitation with inmates is canceled Tuesday because of weather.

    Girls basketball, DeKalb at Lakeland, is canceled.

  • Boys basketball, DeKalb at Angola, is postponed to Feb. 8.

  • Cafe of Hope: Cafe of Hope closed at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and will reopen Wednesday "when travel is safe."

  • Kosciusko County Spelling Bees: Due to severe weather conditions and school closings, the bees scheduled for Tuesday night and Thursday evening have been postponed. The bees have been rescheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 8, for 5th and 6th graders, and Thursday, Feb. 10, for 7th and 8th graders. The bees will be at Kosciusko REMC, 370 S 250 E in Warsaw.
  • County government: County government offices are closed Wednesday. Only emergency-service employees will be working -- the sheriff's department, the communications center, emergency management and the highway department.

  • Kendallville City Council: Tuesday's meeting has been canceled and is rescheduled for 7 p.m. Feb. 8.
  • Kendallville, Limberlost public libraries: The libraries will close at 5 p.m. Tuesday and will remain closed Wednesday. For updates, check the library's website at
  • County offices: Noble County offices are closed Wednesday.

  • Swan Lake: Tonight's performance of Swan Lake at the Niswonger Performing Arts Center of Northwest Ohio in Van Wert has been canceled. A potential reschedule date is being considered.

  • Wabash city offices and departments are closed for the remainder of the day Tuesday and all day Wednesday. They are expected to reopen 8 a.m. Thursday, unless otherwise announced.


  • InterUrban trail in Bluffton: The public meeting on the proposal, scheduled for Tuesday evening, has been canceled and will be rescheduled later.

  • Whitley County government offices closed at noon today and will be closed Wednesday.
  • St. Joseph Hospital's outpatient lab: The lab is closed until Thursday morning in anticipation of severe winter weather. St. Joe Lab at Churubusco Family Medicine, 202 W. Whitley St, Churubusco. All lab services at St. Joseph Hospital, 700 Broadway in Fort Wayne, will continue uninterrupted.

  • Due to the pending ice storm, all Old National banking centers in the greater Indianapolis region closed at 1 p.m. Eastern Time today.
  • The Indiana Supreme Court and related agencies (including the Clerk's Office) closed at 2:15 p.m. Tuesday, and will be closed Wednesday. The court is scheduled to open at 8:30 a.m. Thursday.
  • The Indiana House and Senate are closed today, meaning there will be no committees or session. House Speaker Brian Bosma and Senate President David Long made the decision together, based partially on the ability of staffers to get to the Statehouse following an initial bout of ice. Additional ice is expected starting again this afternoon. No decisions have been made regarding Wednesday's schedule.
  • The Indiana Air Pollution Control Board meeting and public originally scheduled for Wednesday has been rescheduled due to weather. It is now set for 1 p.m. (local time) March 2 at the Tippecanoe County Public Library, 627 South St. in Lafayette.

  • CSA New Truck Safety Rules Workshop: The workshop at The Pines Golf Course in Orrville, Ohio, has been postponed until 5:30 p.m. Feb. 16. OFA staff will call all registered participants to let each know of the change. All those currently registered will remain registered for the later date unless you indicate otherwise. Those who are registered but cannot make the new date will be refunded the registration fee.
