Private school won't buy Evansville high school

EVANSVILLE — Leaders of a private school say they are no longer interested in buying a high school building that the Evansville school district plans to vacate in about a year.

Evansville Christian School had looked into buying the Evansville North High School building as it considers adding high school grades to its current kindergarten through eighth grade classes.

School director Paul Blair tells the Evansville Courier & Press that it wasn't able to line up a partner organization to share costs in operating and maintaining the building. The 600-student school is, instead, looking to buy land to build a high school in eastern Vanderburgh County or western Warrick County.

The Evansville school district plans to close the current North High School after a new building opens during the 2011-12 school year.
