Irish shut down Cardinals in OT

Notre Dame redefined defensive intensity to secure an 89-79 win over Louisville on Wednesday in Purcell Pavilion.

The Irish had to stop the Cardinals twice in the final minute of regulation to force overtime after Notre Dame guard Ben Hansbrough had a rebound go off his fingertips and out of bounds with 25.6 seconds to play.

Louisville's Preston Knowles missed a game-winning three-pointer at the buzzer sending the game into overtime, where Notre Dame ruled.

Carleton Scott drained a three-pointer and Hansbrough hit two free throws in the opening minute of overtime to take a 79-74 lead, and Louisville didn't score its first points in OT until 42.6 second remained.
