It's hard to believe it has been eight years since Angola won its first – and only – girls basketball sectional title. The Hornets, then under the guidance of current Northrop coach Doug Curtis, lost in the Peru Regional after winning the West Noble Sectional in 2003.
The current Angola team is 18-4 after beating Leo 56-37 on Wednesday at the Bishop Dwenger Class 3A Sectional.
The NECC tournament champion Hornets will face Harding (9-10) in the sectional semifinals and could go up against defending 3A state champion Concordia, which had head coach Dave Miller scouting Angola on Wednesday, in the sectional championship game.
"We haven't won it for while, and if we could win this tournament and move onto regionals that would be awesome," said Angola sophomore Rachel Rinehart, who combined with her twin sister Erica to score 26 points vs. the Lions.
