Sled hockey: Check it out

The third annual Bob Chase Frostbite Sled Hockey Championship is taking place Saturday and Sunday at Lutheran Health Sports Center.

Games run from 8:40 a.m. to 9:40 p.m. Saturday.

On Sunday, they run 7:20 a.m. to 1:50 p.m.

There are games in youth and adult divisions.

Youth teams hail from Chicago, Ohio, Pittsburgh, Buffalo, Grand Rapids and Fort Wayne's Turnstone. Adult teams are from Grand Rapids, Pittsburgh, Ohio, Michigan and Turnstone.

To be eligible:

  • Eligibility for competition is all male and female athletes with a permanent functional and/or sensory disability that would normally preclude an athlete from playing regular competitive hockey.
  • Three able-bodied players are permitted on a team's roster
  • Players must be 20 or under
  • National team players are not permitted
  • No more than two able-bodied players on the ice at one time.
  • Able-bodied players shall be permitted to play goaltender.
