A recruiting update on talented Canterbury sophomore Austin Hatch, according to his father, Steve Hatch.
"Austin remains the best-kept secret in the state," Steve said. "I've been watching/coaching the 2013 class for 6-7 years, he's easily a top 10 Indiana prospect and possibly the most versatile and efficient player in his class.
"One of the college(s) listed below has him as their No. 1 Indiana prospect, with due notice to those already committed."
At 6-foot-6, 208 pounds, Austin is averaging 24 points and 10 rebounds and shooting 59 percent from the field. His best game was 34 points, 14 rebounds and eight assists vs. South Side.
"Because of his strong emphasis on the best academics (pre-med, business minor) mixed with great basketball programs in this general part of the country, our list of interest at this point is short," Steve said.
Steve said the schools Austin is looking at are (in no specific order) Michigan, Notre Dame, Purdue and Virginia. All have been to Fort Wayne to see Austin play.
"We have had some really in-depth conversations to identify these schools as a potential matches," Steve said. "Most of the head coaches prefer to wait at least until the summer after sophomore year to make offers. That's perfect for us as we're in no hurry and would prefer to commit once and decisively when the offers are made. We have quietly avoided conversations with other schools at this point.
"With summer coming, Austin will lead a talented Indy Heat team (as many Indiana top 10 2013 players) playing mostly U17 and some U16 (big tourneys)."
