An emaciated dog near death was found at the scene of a drug bust Thursday, according to reports from the Allen County Sheriff's Department.
Chico, a Chihuahua, was found in a garage at a residence in the 1200 block of Ralph Avenue, according to an incident report provided by Steven Stone, sheriff's department spokesman.
The dog and a pit bull puppy were taken to Fort Wayne Animal Care & Control.
The report said a 2-year-old girl was living in the home, and that drug paraphernalia and a gun were both accessible to the child in the room where she sleeps. Her 18-year-old mother was charged with felony neglect.
According to police, slightly less than a pound of pot and drug paraphernalia were found, and Santino S. Morales, 19, and Antonio R. Morales, 18, were charged with possession of marijuana and paraphernalia. Antonio Morales was also charged with possession of stolen property ( a 9 mm handgun), felony child neglect and cruelty to an animal.
The report> said police went to the house about 10 a.m. Thursday, looking for someone else at that address with an active warrant. Police said the illegal items and $1,235 in cash were found during the search.
