  • IPFW men roll in soccer opener

  • IPFW women lose soccer home opener
Slow starts to matches are making this a long season already for the IPFW women's soccer team. Making its regular season home debut Friday in a non-conference match-up against Detroit (1-1-0), the Mastodons lost 2-0.
  • IPFW women win volleyball opener
IPFW women’s volleyball won their fourth consecutive season opener 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 25-21) against Saint Francis (Pa.) at the Bronco Classic in Kalamazoo, Michigan on Friday.

Three seniors win home finale

With 31.4 seconds remaining in IPFW's 73-61 victory over North Dakota State on Saturday, Zach Plackemeier came out of the game, followed by Ben Botts.

And so a home court era ends for the two four-year seniors.

Statistically, they've had better days.

Plackemeier scored six points, had six rebounds and seven assists. Botts had seven points, six rebounds and four assists. Collectively, they shot 5 of 20 from the floor.

Oleg Kovalov, the other senior, a transfer who played two seasons, had seven points, including a bunny bucket underneath with 20.3 seconds left. Then he was taken out.

After the game, IPFW coach Dane Fife said he was surprisingly relaxed, and said something about the basketball gods wouldn't allow the Mastodons to lose.

They may not be gods, but Trey McCorkle and Frank Gaines had something to say about the outcome, too, since McCorkle scored 22 points and Gaines had 18.
