Moore gets Big Ten Player of the Week

E'Twaun Moore averaged 28.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists in Purdue's two victories last week to earn Big Ten Player of the Week on Monday.

Moore had a career-high 38 points in No. 11 Purdue's big victory over No. 2 Ohio State on Sunday. He had 19 in a victory over No. 10 Wisconsin earlier in the week.

"I think why it has significance is the fact that E'Twaun had a great week and obviously he had a huge game against Ohio State with 38 points, but we won both of those games, and that's what matters," coach Matt Painter said.

Moore has rebounded well from a tough stretch in the middle of the season. During a four-game stretch, he made only 26 percent of his shots and averaged 8.5 points. Purdue went 2-2 in those games.

In his last five games, Moore is shooting 51 percent from the field (54 percent on three-pointers) and is averaging 23.4 points. Purdue is 4-1 in that span, including victories over Wisconsin and Ohio State last week.

"Just sticking with it and going out and playing my game and letting the game come to me," Moore said. "Before when I had a few bad games, I know a lot of people were probably talking down and thought I wasn't going to bounce back. But it really didn't faze me. It was just a few bad games. I just stayed at it."

Moore said "just staying confident and staying in the gym" was the key to persevering through his tough stretch.

  • Purdue moved up three spots in the Associated Press poll this week to No. 8.
  • Even though the team only practiced on Monday, Mackey Arena still got loud. Painter had crowd noise piped into the arena's speaker system to simulate the environment at Indiana.
