Brown fails to show for court date, pays fine late

Brown

– Fort Wayne mayoral hopeful and City Councilwoman Liz Brown, R-at large, failed to appear in court last week after receiving a traffic ticket this month.

Brown was cited Feb. 4 for disregarding a lighted signal and was scheduled to appear in Allen County Superior Court on Friday, but she failed to do so, according to the county case summary. Most people getting such a ticket have the opportunity to pay a fine or enter the county deferral program by making a phone call, eliminating the need to appear before a judge.

Brown said she paid her ticket on Tuesday and was back in good standing with the county and state. She said she is not above the law but declined to comment further.

Brown faces former County Councilwoman Paula Hughes, businessman Eric Doden, Fred Osheskie and Terrence Walker in the GOP primary to unseat Mayor Tom Henry.
