The Indiana football team begins spring practice March 8. I had a chance to catch up with wide receiver Damarlo Belcher in a phone interview Thursday.
When it comes to weight room and conditioning, Belcher said "we've been working a lot on change of direction and speed and explosiveness so I think the trainers are doing a great job of getting us prepared for the spring."
Belcher led the Hoosiers with 78 catches for 832 yards last season. His 6.5 receptions per game led the Big Ten. He received All-Big Ten honorable mention recognition from the coaches and media. His role expands with the loss of senior Terrance Turner and junior Tandon Doss (who declared for the NFL draft).
"Even though Tandon and Terrance are gone, I think we still have some young receivers who are ready to step up," Belcher said. "I'm going to do whatever it takes to bring them along with me."
We'll have a full story on Belcher, including his early impressions of first-year coach Kevin Wilson and why he decided to come back for his senior year, as we get close to previewing the Hoosiers' spring camp.
