Written statement issued Friday morning by the Fort Wayne Police Department.
On Thursday, March 3rd, 2011 at approximately 19:30 hrs Fort Wayne Police Officers were conducting surveillance at 3709 Meda Pass. This was in response to neighborhood complaints of frequent traffic at this residence.
While conducting surveillance officers observed a silver Dodge Durango arrive at the residence. The officers observed a female subject exit the vehicle and enter the residence. A few minutes later the same female subject exited the residence and drove away.½
Officers then conducted a traffic stop on this vehicle after they observed the driver fail to signal a turn at Engle and Bluffton Rd. During the traffic stop the officers requested the aid of a K9. This K9 alerted to the presence of narcotic odor coming from the vehicle. A search of the vehicle resulted in the recovery of ½ pound of Heroin. This has an approximate value of $12,000.
The driver, Sylvia Garza, was then placed under arrest for Dealing in Heroin. She was then turned over to narcotic detectives for further investigation.
Narcotic detectives were able to obtain a warrant for the house she left from, 3709 Media Pass and for Ms. Garza's residence.
During the execution of the search warrant at 3709 Meda Pass detectives located another 5 pounds of Heroin, with a street value of $160,000. Detectives also recovered a loaded handgun, and $7,500 in U.S. currency. This residence was owned by Manuel Gonsalez-Avilla. He was also placed under arrest for Dealing in Heroin.
During the execution of the search warrant at 3101 McArthur Drive detectives recovered two handguns.
Both subjects were arrested and transported to the Allen County lockup.
