So I've been hearing arguments from some corners that the NCAA Tournament would be way keener if, instead of letting the small-fry conference champions in, we instead put in 28 teams in from the Big East in or whatever.
The argument goes, it's a better tournament with a lot of leavings from the big-boys conference remainder table, no matter how crummy their records. Because, after all, who wouldn't want to see more of, say, 13-17 Seton Hall?
Here's why that's stupid, other than the fact that it's just stupid: Because if you go that route, St. Peter's doesn't get in. And we are therefore deprived of the opportunity to cheer for a team whose nickname is the Peacocks.
And who wants to give that up?
