The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Sunjoy Industries Group Ltd. announced a voluntary recall Wednesday of the company’s freestanding steel outdoor fireplaces.
The Steubenville, Ohio, company sold about 20,000 in the United States and 400 in Canada.
The decorative bronze powder coat finish on the fireplace chimney can ignite during use, according to the announcement.
It said Sunjoy has received 14 reports of the finish catching fire, one melting siding. No injuries have been reported.
The fireplaces with a bronze finish chimney and slate colored accents sold for about $300 and were sold at Lowe’s stores between March and November 2010.
Item No. 0027705 and model No. L-OF082PST-3 are printed on the front page of the product's instruction manual. No other Garden Treasures Living brand outdoor fireplaces are included in this recall, the announcement said.
Consumers are urged to immediately stop using the fireplace and contact Sunjoy for a free replacement chimney and chimney cap.
Sunjoy can be reached during work hours at its toll-free number, 877-343-5651, or anytime at email@example.com. More information is available at www.sunjoydirect.com/fireplacerecall.htm.
