Ice Chips

  • K's drop to 4th in rankings
After getting soundly defeated by the Toledo Walleye twice in the last week, the Komets have dropped in my ECHL Power Rankings. Idaho now tops the list.
  • A good cause
The Fort Wayne Freeze, the police department team, will take on the Cincinnati Firefighter Hockey Club at Memorial Coliseum at 3 p.m. Saturday.
  • No defense, no win for Komets
TOLEDO, Ohio – In what has been a largely excellent start to the season, the Toledo Walleye has proved problematic for the guys in orange and black.

At last, the Mudbugs

This is an interesting night because I finally get to see one of those teams -- the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs -- in person for the first time. I have mentioned them so many times through the years, since they've been a CHL power for so long.

And we all know how the Komets have fared against CHL powers this season -- not well.

The Mudbugs have won five straight. The Komets have lost 6 of 8.

Remember, the Komets have eight games left in the regular season to try and make up some ground. They are in eighth place in the Turner Conference, three points back of Dayton, five back of Quad City and eight back of Wichita, the only team within realistic striking distance.

As for whom the Komets should be wanting to meet in the first round of the playoffs, how about third-place Bloomington. The Komets are 3-5-0 against the PrairieThunder this season.

  • There will be a game-used Nick Boucher stick, signed by the entire team, up for auction at the Suburban Bethlehem School's annual fundraiser Saturday at Sweetwater Sound. It's open to the public. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the auction begins at 7 p.m. The address is 6318 West California Road.
