What Jalen Rose meant

So Jalen Rose has explained what he meant by his comments about black players at Duke being "Uncle Toms," which is exactly what anyone with a working brain understood him to mean in the first place.

Here's the deal: I watched the Fab Five doc, and Rose's comments didn't seem in the slightest shocking to me, because he made it abundantly clear that the "Uncle Tom" take is what he thought then, as a clueless college kid, and not now, as an adult with some adult perspective. How anyone could have interpreted it otherwise is beyond me.

Unless, of course, they're a 24/7 media animal hungry for outrage and therefore inclined, on occasion, to invent it. And so instead of commenting on what Rose actually said (which wouldn't have garnered many web hits at all), the Assembled Media instead ginned it up in search of bigger numbers.

Thus, a controversy as manufactured as Tupperware.
