Mad Antics

  • Tryout information
The Mad Ants will hold an open tryout from 2 to 6 p.m. Sept. 14 at the Quest Multisport Complex in Chicago.
  • Howard not sure on return to Mad Ants this season
Howard has had some interest from NBA teams – that's nothing new, though Howard has never made a regular-season roster – and is again fielding offers from teams in Europe.
  • Ants will look different
When the Mad Ants open defense of their D-League championship this season, the roster will likely look very different.

Halftime message: Stop No. 34

It's halftime at the Mad Ants-Springfield game at Memorial Coliseum, and both teams are in their respective locker rooms as I speak. So I don't know what's exactly being said by Ants coach Joey Meyer.

My guess is that he's suggesting somebody guard No. 34 on the Armor, Jerry Smith.

Smith scored 22 of Springfield's 31 second quarter points, and the Ants trail 50-47 at the half - this after leading 27-19 after the first period.

With his 22 points, Smith, a 6-2 guard from Louisville (insert NCAA comment here), doubled the 11-point output in the first half by the Springfield starters.

Darnell Lazare has 14 points to lead Fort Wayne, and Chris Kramer has four points and six assists without a turnover. He does, however, have three fouls - the last coming on a three-quarter court collision with Scottie Reynolds.
