YMCA Arts Academy offers open house

Statement issued Friday:

The YMCA of Greater Fort Wayne is pleased to announce the opening of its one-of-a-kind Arts Academy at the Renaissance Pointe YMCA, offering professional level classes in the areas of piano instruction, vocal instruction, choral training, writing, presentation instruction and dance.

The Arts Academy, as well as the new Arts & Humanities Wing of the Renaissance Pointe YMCA, will be on display for the community at an open house on Saturday, March 19 from 3-5 p.m.

The open house will feature performances by the world champion Voices of Unity Choir, which will be a key component of the Arts Academy’s syllabus.

“We have always offered art instruction in our after-school care program and we will continue to do that, though the new Arts Academy will offer specialized, professional-level instruction by well-respected teachers,” said Ebony Young, Executive Director of the Renaissance Pointe YMCA. “We are really pleased that we are able to bring this program to our community!”

The Arts Academy will feature instruction from Barb Johnson, Owner and CEO of SheKristyle Academy of Dance and Marshall White, Artistic Director and CEO of Voices of Unity Choir.

The Arts Academy will also be accepting 30 children and teens for choral and instrument instruction. Dance classes will be on-going for youth of all ages.

Plans are in place to add Professional Theater and Visual Arts to the curriculum in 2012.

“This high-quality, artistic collaboration is a perfect fit for the Y,” said Nicole Liddell, Director of Mission Advancement for the YMCA of Greater Fort Wayne. “It allows our local children and teens the opportunity to develop their artistic skills and talents while strengthening our community by building confident and creative kids today who will become successful adults tomorrow.”
