Coach Al Sims and captain Colin Chaulk retired, and now so has the goaltender who backstopped them to four championships between 2008 and 2012.At the end of the Komets' 5-4 victory over Bossier-Shreveport on Wednesday, Mudbugs goaltender Ryan Munce made an obscene gesture in the direction of referee Ryan Hersey.
He will not be disciplined for the action because a) no penalty was called for the action; b) the Komets didn't request a review of the act; c) it didn't appear on the official's report; d) no one from hockey operations saw it first hand.
I don't want to make too big a deal out of this -- we've seen Komets players do similar things several times -- but I do have to wonder why a misconduct or or something wasn't given at the 20-minute mark of the third period. I saw it clear as day, as did many, many fans, and I know some of the officials were looking right at Munce.

By the way, it is true that the Komets are assuming their first two playoff games will be April 6 and 8 at the Coliseum. However, it is way too premature to make much of that. We don't know the opponent, and that opponent will have to determine how it best wants to use its home-ice advantage. They could play Friday-Sunday; Friday-Saturday, etc., and that will dictate what the Komets want to do with Games 3 and 4 of the best-of-five series.
