Komets rally to win in shootout

Derek Patrosso helped the Komets complete an amazing comeback, scoring the final goal in the overtime shootout to give Fort Wayne a 5-4 victory at Evansville.

The Komets (29-25-7) allowed four goals in the second period to fall behind 4-1. Fort Wayne then tallied three goals in the period to tie the contest. The game remained that way through the third period and overtime, setting up the shootout.

Tab Lardner and Brian Bicek scored shootout goals for Fort Wayne and Evansville, respectively. Patrosso scored following Matt Pierce's unsuccessful attempt for Evansville.

Leo Thomas gave the Komets a 1-0 lead with a goal at 9:24 of the first period.

The Icemen (19-32-12) scored the next four goals. Erik Boisvert, Jeff Nelson, Bicek and Adam Knopp scored for Evansville.

Fort Wayne responded with first with a power-play goal by Guy Dupuis at 9:12 of the second period. Artem Podshendyalov cut the deficit to 4-3 with a power-play goal at 10:19. Mathieu Curadeau tied the game with a goal at 11:37 of the second period.

Kevin Reiter made 24 saves for Fort Wayne. The Komets return home today, facing Bloomington at 5 p.m. at Memorial Coliseum.
