    KALAMAZOO, Mich. – In what had become a heated game, Shawn Szydlowski capped a 3-2 overtime victory for the Komets on Friday by stealing the puck in the Kalamazoo Wings zone and then sending a wrist shot past the goal with 49 seconds remaining.

Juniors win tournament

The Fort Wayne Midget Komets captured the National Junior Prospects Hockey League championship showdown for 16-and-under teams at Kalamazoo, Mich. That closed the season for the Tier 1, AAA junior team.

The Komets defeated Belle Tire of the Detroit area, 6-4; West Michigan of Kalamazoo, 4-3; and Oz Fitness, based in Billings, Mont., 6-4. In Sunday's title game, the Komets again topped Oz, 3-2.

The team is coached by former Komets player Ron Leef, and assisted by former Komets Steve Fletcher and Colin Chin.
